MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A wrong-way driver was responsible for a collision that happened on Florida’s Turnpike around 5 a.m. Friday.
The crash happened when a driver of a Chevrolet Camaro was driving north in the southbound lanes and collided with a driver of a Toyota pickup truck, NBC Miami reported.
The driver of the pickup truck, who was identified as Michael Calixte, swerved to avoid the crash. The driver of the Camaro mirrored Calixte’s actions and managed to come into contact with Calixte’s vehicle.
Calixte sustained minor injuries while the Camaro driver was pinned inside his vehicle. He was extricated and hospitalized for critical, life-threatening injuries.
Officials have not revealed if the Camaro driver was impaired or other details surrounding the collision.
