by

MIAMI, FL – A Miami-Dade police officer was hospitalized after a driver of a stolen Nissan Sentra crashed into the police cruiser Tuesday.

The collision happened at the intersection of Northwest 62nd Street and Northwest 25th Avenue in Gladeview, according to Local 10. It first began as a police chase, as officials were trying to locate some carjacking suspects who were responsible for stealing a black Nissan Sentra.

Police said the driver and passengers from the Sentra allegedly had guns on them.

A 17-year-old boy was suspected of being behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. The teenager, along with the other suspects – 19-year-old Walter Carter, and 20-year-old Ryan Wright – were arrested. At least one of them was hospitalized for unspecified injuries.

The police officer, later identified as Khristopher Welch, was taken to the hospital for critical-life-threatening injuries but has since been released.
